Carlyn and Matthew had a lovely December wedding at St. Peter Chanel Catholic Church with a reception at Ivy Hall in Roswell last weekend. These two met on Twitter of all places during the pandemic. After some messaging back and forth, online movie nights, and book studies, they decided to meet up with some other online friends in Athens, GA. They stayed friends for a few more months before Matthew asked Carlyn on a date.
All they wanted for their wedding day was for it to be filled with family and to center their wedding day in prayer. Even though both of them live in Greenville, SC, Carlyn said they chose to get married “in the church where my parents were received into the faith which is so special! Our faith is very important to us and we have been reflecting on how we will live that out in married life and family life.” They have a deep devotion to Mary, and got married on the feast of St. Juan Diego. This meant their rehearsal fell on the Feast of the Immaculate Conception too!
The wedding day was full of laughter and peace, with hints of Christmas sprinkled throughout the day. The lush white and blush florals and their navy/grey color palette paired well with the candle centerpieces at the reception. Carlyn’s dress from Wedding Angels was stunning – those lace sleeves are a dream!! Her flatlay was one of my favorites of this year too. We began the day at the bride’s childhood home before moving over to the church. Matthew and Carlyn wrote letters to each other and each gave the other a gift with a Marian theme! The morning went smoothly, in spite of a little ant hill fiasco (you’ll have to ask Carlyn about this one). The wedding Mass was in the gorgeous St. Peter Chanel Catholic Church in Roswell. It provided the perfect, holy backdrop for them to enter into the Sacrament together.
Rain threatened us all day, but fortunately held out for our wedding party portraits around Ivy Hall and Vickery Falls. These two love birds giggled their way through all their photos, which made us all laugh with them! I was a particular fan of their alphabetized seating chart – makes it so easy for people to find their seats! DJ Esteban with 1800 Media kept the party going all night. The rain threatened to cancel their biodegradable fake snow exit, but it miraculously stopped for 10 minutes just in time!! I am so grateful for the awesome couples that trust me with their wedding photos and precious memories. Congrats Matthew and Carlyn, I hope y’all enjoy married life!!
