Sydney and Donovan had a beautiful Catholic July wedding at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church in Woodstock and Glover Park Brewery in Marietta last weekend! Every detail was carefully planned and perfectly executed! The beautiful wildflower inspired florals by Southern Class Weddings & Events were so fun – chamomile is such an underrated flower. The bride and groom wanted to prioritize spending the day together, which I think is important on a wedding day!
Sydney and Donovan met in 2018 at the Georgia Tech Catholic Center and got to know each other through mutual friends. In late 2020, they joined a book club called “The Chums,” which strengthened their friendship during their final semester at Georgia Tech in spring 2021. They stayed in touch through the book club while Donovan was in seminary. In summer 2022, after Donovan left the seminary, he asked Sydney out for dinner and rock climbing in Atlanta. Both wanted it to be a date, and they’ve been together ever since.
The day started with some details and getting ready photos at the bridal suite at St. Michael. Both parties were so relaxed and calm, which makes the morning so fun. Sydney and her dad shared a sweet first look before the wedding ceremony. I was really struck by the love the bride’s family had for her, especially her close relationship with her mom!
Catholic Wedding Mass
The Catholic wedding Mass in Woodstock was beautiful! Friends of the bride and groom acted as the choir and incense added to the heavenly atmosphere. Donovan tenderly held onto Sydney from the moment her dad gave her away until they exited the church! They participated in the Flowers to Mary tradition following communion with the Our Lady of Guadalupe statue at St. Michael. Following the family photos, the bride and groom retreated into the adoration chapel to spend time in prayer together.
We took all of their group and couple’s portraits around the grounds of St. Michael, which has some pretty landscaping in the summer! One of the things that worked really well at this wedding was the transportation. Most of the guests were from out of town, so the bride’s family provided transportation by Atlantic Limousine & Transportation for everyone between venues. This made the day run so smoothly and gave everyone the peace of mind to enjoy themselves and not worry about parking.
Marietta Reception
Glover Park Brewery was a great spot for the wedding reception. The bud vases, wildflower arrangements, and candles were so romantic. The cake by Lush Cakery looked so pretty with all the flowers! Everyone loved the cookie bar from Heidi’s Heavenly Cookies. For favors, there were iced wedding theme cookies at each place setting. The couple’s friends LOVED to dance and were making the floor shake as they celebrated. Rich with Complete We Do was an awesome DJ.
At the end of the night, the couple danced with their wedding party in a group private last dance and then had their own private last dance! Their bubble exit was perfect, and the bride’s mom surprised them with a classic Rolls Royce getaway car and cold sparks. I am incredibly thankful for the wonderful Catholic couples who entrust me with capturing their wedding photos. Congrats Sydney and Donovan!!
